When it comes to oral piercings, everyone talks about styles, jewelry, placements, and "does it hurt or not?" Then there are those who fill you with info on the care: rinses, foods to avoid, no kissing for a few days, no smoking (yeah, right...). But very few tell you the truth that really matters before you even get pierced.
And I, who am Pippo, a piercer for years, who sees dozens of different mouths every day, today I'm telling you something simple and very important:
If you haven't had a professional teeth cleaning in the last six months... do it before getting a mouth piercing.
This isn't advice from an anxious uncle. This is advice from a serious piercer who has seen it all . Because oral piercings (tongue, lip, jellyfish, smiley...) are awesome, but they require clean ground to heal properly. And guess what? Your mouth is that ground.
Why is teeth cleaning essential before a mouth piercing?

Because your mouth, even if it seems “ok”, can host:
Invisible plaque
Tartar stuck between gums and teeth
Mild inflammations that you don't notice
Silent bacteria just waiting for a fresh wound to party
When we insert a jewel into the oral cavity, we are creating a controlled wound . It is physiological, but it is still a wound. If there are too many bacteria, if the gums are already stressed, if there is tartar embedded...
💥 BOOM!
Your piercing is at risk of becoming infected, swelling like a balloon, causing pain, rejection, and in some cases even damage to your teeth or gum recession.
And no, brushing your teeth is not enough.
Brushing your teeth at home is essential, of course. But it's not enough . A professional cleaning by a dentist or hygienist goes much deeper. It removes everything that a toothbrush and dental floss dream of at night. It helps you get off to a good start, giving your piercing the ideal conditions to heal quickly and without problems.
Trust me, it's much better to spend XX€ on a cleaning... Than to have to come back to me a week later with an inflamed lip and a tongue that won't let you sleep 😅
When should it be done?
👉 The ideal is to do it within 1 or 2 weeks before the piercing . If you did it in the 3-6 months before , you can rest easy. If you don't even remember it... book it before the piercing!
A well done oral piercing starts with a healthy mouth.

And that's the point. It's not just about aesthetics: it's about safety, hygiene, respect for your body . My job is not just to "make holes", but to help you make them in the best possible way. And believe me: those who follow this advice have 90% fewer problems than those who ignore it.
